| Denmark. Short break |
If you want to visit Denmark for short break, you may need to know some more information for the Kingdom. Location Northern Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, on a peninsula north of Germany (Jutland); also includes two major islands (Sjaelland and Fyn) The word ‘Denmark’ appears as early as the Viking age, carved on the great Jelling Stone from the 900s, but there’s a huge difference between what ‘Denmark’ comprised then and what it comprises today. In some eras, for instance the 13th and 17th centuries, the country was a superpower whose influence was as massive as that of the largest European countries. Thus, the national boundaries of modern Kingdom were more or less established by 1864, and the border between southern Jutland and Germany became fixed in 1920. A short break in Modern Denmark will be great possibility to acquaintance the country .Very bluntly speaking, it can be claimed that the present configuration of Denmark is the result of 400 years of forced relinquishments of land, surrenders and lost battles.
Crucial events took place in the mid-1800s. In 1848, absolutism had been abolished, whereby Denmark got a constitution and a parliament, but in 1864 the Kingdom suffered a crushing defeat to Prussia in the second Schleswig war and had to relinquish 40% of its land. The Danish population dropped from 2.6 million to 1.6 million. In 1949 Denmark was one of the founding members of NATO. In 1972 the country voted for joining the European Communities, EC (changed in 1993 to the European Union, EU). Today the Kingdom – especially considering its relatively small size – is an active player on the international political scene. Danish Architecture As for attractive architecture, international heavyweights such as Arne Jacobsen, Jørn Utzon and Henning Larsen have long ago placed the Kingdom on the architectural world map. And you only have to make short break to that country, to see that the contemporary Danish architects continue to shape urban and city country with a sense of high quality, natural and very modern building design. Design Year 2005 2005 has been declared an official design year in Denmark, and this is to be celebrated in style. During Design Year 2005 Copenhagen assembles the newest and best in the world of design for a magnificent series of international events that will continue to have an impact for many years to come. Exhibitions, conferences and the world’s largest design prizes highlight design. Nature Because the country is surrounded by expanses of ocean, they have a temperate coastal climate. This means that the weather changes frequently, that they have relatively cool summers and that the winters rarely get really cold (you can fill that during your winter short break). The summertime average temperature is around 16 degrees Celsius, dropping to a 0.5 degree winter season average. The total area of Denmark is 43,094 square kilometres, of which 2/3 are used for agricultural and forestry purposes. The land is mostly flat, and the highest point, Yding Skovhøj, rises to a modest 173 metres above sea level. Environment In 1971 The Kingdom became the first country in the world to establish a ministry for the environment. In general, Danes are quite environment-conscious, and a lot of effort is made to promote eco-friendly production and consumer habits, both on an individual and a political level. Enjoy your short break in that beautiful country.
